National Mitzvah Day
Did you know that March 16-18 is Areyvut’s National Mitzvah Day, (formally known as “Make a Difference” Day). No, this is not another Hallmark holiday, but rather a day to inspire Jewish youth to give of themselves. This year’s theme “Olam Chesed Yibaneh – The World is Built on Kindness”.
National Mitzvah Day
March 16-18, 2012
“Try to be totally unselfish today.”
One of the primary goals of this international community service initiative is to encourage the Jewish community to engage in additional social action opportunities. Focusing around the theme of kindness, this year’s suggested activities center around physical building, rebuilding communities and strengthening relationships.
Everyone is encouraged to participate. Schools, synagogues, families and community organizations are invited to encourage their children, teenagers and adults to participate in chesed (kindness) and community service activities.
Make a Difference Day is a worldwide initiative and takes place wherever people want to participate all around the globe. The dates are guidelines and for 2012, it has been scheduled from Friday, March 16th through Sunday, March 18th. Participants are encouraged to register so the projects can be shared with others, but it is not essential. Either way, Areyvut loves photos, so feel free to send in photos of your activities to: info@areyvut.org
National Mitzvah Day is sponsored by Areyvut, a non profit organization established in 2002 that enables Jewish youth to infuse their lives with the core Jewish values of chesed (kindness), tzedakah (charity) and tikkun olam (social action) so that they become thoughtful, giving members of the Jewish community of tomorrow.
It all makes me feel good. Hope it does the same for you and that we all find a way to participate locally.
