A Children’s Menorah and Other Hanukkah Gift Ideas for Kids

The wonderment of Hanukkah shines through in the eyes of the young, as the candles light, the dreidels spin, and chocolate is shared. A children’s menorah gives a sense of participation and is the perfect gift. Whether it’s for lighting the candles, or a toy, early involvement helps develop lifelong rituals.

When I think of a children’s menorah, it is the Noah’s Ark menorah that my father sent our girls when they were young. We would light the shamash for them, and each night they lit the candles.

There are also toy Hanukkah menorahs, allowing the very young to participate without worry. Below I share my favourite from each category.

Traditional Children’s Menorah

In some families, everyone has their own menorah. In ours, we used one per year. For years it was a traditional menorah from Israel. Then my father sent the one for the girls. Every year it was brought out weeks early, just to enjoy. They could hardly wait for the first night of the Festival of Lights.

They have grown up now, and our current favourite children’s menorah probably wasn’t designed specifically for kids, but take a look at it. What kid wouldn’t love the big spiral or the rainbow of colors? It’s unusual and will look great on the shelves all year.

If I wanted to go a bit more “kid” themed, then this train menorah would be my first pick. Available in a variety of colors.

Yair Emanuel Anodized Aluminum Children's Train Hanukkah Menorah

I think the spinning wheels on this steam train menorah is my favorite feature. The train’s engine holds the shamash or helper candle, the other two carriages each hold four candles.
