It’s surprisingly easy to make air fryer apples with only three ingredients. Warm, comforting, and loaded with cinnamon, they are naturally gluten-free and vegan and will satisfy any sweet tooth without added sugar.
I am not really sure how we discovered these. I remember one of our girls originating this recipe, but they think it was me.
Either way, we love air fryer apple wedges. They are simple to make, quick, and have that warm, comforting feeling one gets from eating grandma’s apple pie.
It’s now a family favorite at our house. In fact, we make them almost daily whenever apples are in season. A guilt-free treat if you believe the old saying, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Which type of apple should I use?
I love air-fried apples and will generally use whichever varieties we have in the house, but given a choice, I will always pick the most tart we have. In order, my personal preference would be:
- Granny Smith
Granny Smith apples are my first choice as they are the tartest of the bunch. They have a sharp, vibrant flavor and a firm texture that holds up well in the air fryer. Their tartness beautifully balances the sweetness of the cinnamon. - Braeburn
Offering a good balance of sweet and tart, I find Braeburn apples to be versatile for cooking and eating raw. - Gala
Moving towards the sweeter end, Gala apples provide a milder apple flavor and soften nicely in the air fryer - Fuji
On the sweeter side, Fuji apples are known for their dense and crisp texture, but are my last choice of the apples we typically have at home.

Serving suggestions – What else can I do with these cinnamon apple slices?
Honestly, I usually eat them straight out of the air fryer with a fork. They are that good. However, they also make other things better. Here are a few ideas:
- For breakfast
We have been known to have some air-fried apples on top of a bowl of coconut yogurt, granola, gluten-free oatmeal, or rice cereal. - A brunch treat
Sometimes, on a lazy weekend morning, I use the apple wedges as a warm, spiced topping for pancakes or waffles. Or, better yet, I use them as a filling in buckwheat or coconut crepes. - In a smoothie
My most recent successful experiment involved letting the air-fried apples cool and then adding them, almond milk, and vanilla protein powder for a satisfying and delicious smoothie. - Snack time
Pair the warm apples with a slice of sharp cheddar or creamy brie for a fun snack. If you have dietary restrictions like me, choose dairy-free cheeses. - Delicious dessert
Serve the warm cinnamon apple slices on top of a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a fantastic dessert.
