Readers asked for an example of something they could make easily with our ginger stir-fry sauce. I looked in our refrigerator to see what I had readily available.
There was a head of broccoli, a flank steak, and leftover rice. I cut the meat and broccoli into bite-sized pieces, stir-fried it, and finished it off with our make-on-the-spot ginger sauce.
When I have them, I like to add some carrots or red bell peppers to the stir-fry as I cook the broccoli stems. This brightens up an already attractive dish with more color.
What you need to make this stir-fry
- Beef – I often look for beef strips or cubes, but sirloin, rump, or flank steaks are also great for stir-fry
- Broccoli – use it all, including the stems
- Olive oil – choose one that is made for pan frying (not extra virgin)
- Ginger stir-fry sauce – this is our homemade recipe, the secret to our fabulous beef and broccoli stir-fry
Tips for making this broccoli beef stir-fry
- Cut the meat into 1/2″ chunks or bite-sized strips to avoid long cook times.
- Peel the broccoli stem (if using it) with a potato peeler to avoid the chewy fibrous bits.
- Keep the broccoli stem pieces separate from the florets so they can be cooked first (they require more cook time to become tender).

Serving suggestions
This stir-fry dish is great over rice. I like to top it with toasted sesame seeds prior to serving.
Sometimes, I use our peanut satay sauce instead of the ginger sauce on the beef and broccoli.
